Create an expert-led community event in Sydney

Friendly, practical workshops that keep bikes rolling — for commuters, families, and workplaces.

Pedal Set Go delivers welcoming bike maintenance training for groups across Sydney — in the community and at workplaces. Programs are funded by councils or employers, so they’re free for the public or staff who attend. (For clarity: the host organisation pays for delivery; participants don’t.)

We’re Sydney‑based bicycle educators (women‑ and queer‑owned micro business) focused on transport riding and real‑world skills.

Who this is for

Basic Bike Maintenance — what you’ll learn

Find More Cycling Programs in Sydney

Basic Bike Maintenance — safety check, puncture prevention, clean and lube, simple adjustments, and low‑mess roadside fixes.

  • Intermediate Bike Maintenance — deeper dive on gears and brakes, drivetrain wear checks, pad swaps (demo), and confident problem‑solving. $1

  • More than mechanics: our mechanics are educators who can advise on route planning, fit & comfort, carrying options, lights and locks, and riders’ rights & responsibilities.

Prefer not to get your hands dirty? Each session includes a clean‑hands path: what to look for, when to stop riding, and how to brief a mechanic — plus tidy fixes you can do on the go.

People riding for transport or fun who want fuss‑free, repeatable habits.

  1. Local councils running community engagement and active transport programs.

  2. Workplaces supporting staff to ride to work as part of wellness and WHS.

  3. Business districts, campuses, libraries, markets, and precinct activations.

Practical essentials to keep a bike safe and smooth without a home workshop.

  • ABCD pre‑ride safety check (Air, Brakes, Chain/Cranks/Controls, quick drop test)

  • Tyres & puncture prevention: choosing pressures, spotting wear, avoiding pinch‑flats, tubes vs. patches, pumps and CO₂

  • Brakes: lever squeeze test, rim/disc pad wear, rubbing diagnosis, quick get‑you‑home tweaks

  • Gears & chain care: tidy wipe‑and‑lube routine, why chain wear costs money, what clicking means

  • Comfort & bolts: seat height, lever reach, simple wiggle tests before longer rides $1- More than mechanics: lights, locks, carrying options, route tips, and riders’ rights & responsibilities.

You’ll leave with a simple take‑home checklist and confidence to keep riding.

For riders who already know the basics and want to understand adjustments.

  • Drivetrain diagnostics: chain wear measurement, cassette/chainring condition

  • Gears: indexing derailleurs, limit screws, cable tension, common shifting faults, what’s safe to adjust roadside

  • Brakes: pad identification and replacement (demonstration), aligning rim pads and disc calipers, rotor rub diagnosis, understanding mechanical vs. hydraulic systems

  • Wheels: quick checks for true and spoke tension (recognise issues and when to stop riding)

  • No‑panic problem‑solving: triage order, tools to carry, and clean‑hands options

Safety note: We don’t bleed hydraulic brakes or perform complex shop repairs in class. We show you how to identify problems, apply safe interim fixes, and brief a mechanic clearly.

Free Tune‑Ups — education while we work

Perfect as a community or workplace event funded by a council or employer (free for participants). While we’re tuning a bike — safety check, brake and gear adjustments, tyre inflation, chain lube — we teach in the moment so riders pick up the basics: what we’re looking for, how to spot issues early, and simple habits to keep things smooth.

  • Format: short walk‑ups or booked slots

  • Style: mostly demonstration in 1–2 hour activations; for 3 hours+ we can add mini hands‑on stations $1- Beyond the spanners: our mechanics can answer everything bike‑related — route planning, carrying things, comfort and bike fit, lighting and security, and riders’ rights & responsibilities.

Pricing & funding

These programs are typically funded by the council or employer. That means free attendance for the public or staff, with costs covered by the host organisation. If you’re a private group wanting a course, get in touch for a quote.

Accessibility & inclusion

We build calm, low‑pressure learning spaces so nervous or returning riders feel welcome. We can slow things down, offer sensory‑friendly approaches, and provide simple visuals or translated materials on request. Our team reflects the communities we serve and meets people where they’re at so everybody can learn. Our educator team is primarily women; if you would like a woman instructor, you can request this when booking.
