Modern Slavery Statement – Pedal Set Go
At Pedal Set Go, we are committed to reducing the risks of modern slavery and ensuring ethical practices in our operations and supply chain. We are a micro-business operating mainly in Australia, and being small does not exempt us from the responsibility to prevent modern slavery. We take proportionate, practical steps to identify and address risks in the work we do and the things we buy.
What is modern slavery?
Modern slavery involves exploiting individuals through force, coercion, deception or abuse of power. It occurs in many sectors—agriculture, manufacturing, logistics and services—and is often concealed, making it difficult to detect. The Asia–Pacific region, including Australia, is not exempt.
Who we are (structure, operations and supply chain)
Business: Pedal Set Go is an Australian micro-business delivering bike education, guided rides and related community events.
Operations: Scheduling and delivery of courses and events; curriculum and materials; customer service and administration.
Supply chain (first tier): Bikes and small equipment/parts, printing and merchandise, venue hire, digital/IT services, insurance and professional services. We prioritise Australian suppliers and short supply lines wherever possible.
Controlled entities: Pedal Set Go does not own or control any other entities.
Our commitment
Providing fair and rewarding work is central to our purpose. We comply with Australian workplace laws and expect the same from any engaged entities. We take reasonable, proportionate steps to identify, assess and address modern slavery risks in our operations and supply chain, acknowledging that even low-risk environments are not risk-free.
Risks we consider
Imported goods (e.g. components, textiles/merchandise) with upstream manufacturing risks.
Printing/garments where cotton or dyeing/finishing may involve higher-risk geographies.
Electronics/IT with complex, multi-country supply chains.
Gig-economy context intersecting with bike use (e.g. delivery riders) where precarious work can mask exploitation.
What we do (controls and due diligence)
Fair work & safe conditions: We ensure all workers and engaged entities are paid at least legal minimum wages and entitlements, and we monitor rosters/hours to avoid unsafe practices. We verify award coverage and pay settings with Fair Work at least yearly (or sooner if laws change).
Onboarding checks: ABN, right-to-work, insurances and genuine contracting (no sham arrangements).
Supplier screening: New suppliers are screened for sector/country red flags; where risk is higher we request a brief self-assessment and evidence of controls (or a plan to lift them).
Contract flow-down: Our purchase orders/subcontracts include modern-slavery clauses and require onward flow-down to the supplier’s own engaged entities.
Information sharing: We will provide information reasonably required by clients or authorities for due diligence.
Remediation stance: Where a concern is identified, we will act quickly—see “Reporting and remediation” below—and we may suspend or terminate relationships that do not cooperate or remediate.
Awareness and capability
Team awareness: Short, plain-English briefings on indicators of exploitation, disclosure pathways and documentation.
Context we see: We highlight risks seen in the gig economy, where some delivery riders face low pay, lack of rights and unsafe conditions—issues that can affect migrants and others with limited protections.
Relevant background: Our Director worked in property management at Eaves Housing for Women (UK) from 2005 to 2013, received safeguarding/anti-trafficking training, and worked alongside colleagues supporting trafficked women. This exposure informs our practical screening, safeguarding awareness and escalation pathways today.
Reporting concerns and remediation
How to report: Staff, suppliers or community members can raise concerns by emailing hello@pedalsetgo.com.au or speaking with a Pedal Set Go manager. Reports can be made confidentially.
Our response: We will acknowledge concerns, make timely enquiries, and—where modern slavery is suspected or identified—prepare a Remediation Plan within 14 days setting out actions, timeframes and indicators of completion. We will cooperate with reasonable client or authority requests and complete agreed actions. We keep appropriate records and respect the safety and dignity of affected people.
How we assess effectiveness
We keep a simple Modern Slavery Register and:
record actions taken (e.g. new supplier screens, staff briefings, concerns raised/resolved);
note “nil incidents” for any period with nothing to report; and
review effectiveness annually at EOFY and on trigger events (onboarding a new subcontractor/supplier, large or overseas purchase, credible concern/complaint, or a law/client request).
Consultation
Not applicable—Pedal Set Go does not own or control other entities. We consult directly with our staff and engaged entities about these practices.
Policies and standards we align with
Australian workplace laws (minimum wages and entitlements, WHS).
UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work (as guiding standards).
Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth): We are below the mandatory reporting threshold; however, we choose to adopt good-practice controls appropriate to a micro-business and, where helpful, publish this statement on the Australian Modern Slavery Register.
