Sydney Guided Bike Rides

Explore Sydney by bike with confidence

Pedal Set Go offers relaxed, welcoming guided bike rides across Sydney, including regular public guided rides delivered on behalf of the City of Sydney and private bespoke guided rides for visitors, locals, workplaces, conferences, families and small groups.

Our guided rides are not just about getting from A to B. As professional bike educators, we design rides that help people feel safe, included and confident while exploring Sydney by bike.

For us, the whole journey matters — not just the destination. We pay attention to route choice, rider comfort, group movement, safety, local stories, community connections and how people experience the city by bike.

City of Sydney guided rides

Pedal Set Go regularly delivers guided rides on behalf of the City of Sydney, often with 2–4 public rides available each month when programs are running.

These rides are a relaxed way to discover Sydney’s cycleways, shared paths, quiet streets, public spaces and bike-friendly connections. Rides often include route tips, local knowledge, community stories and practical confidence-building along the way.

City of Sydney guided rides are usually free for participants, with bookings required through the official City of Sydney event listing.

Guided rides with other councils and partners

Pedal Set Go also delivers guided rides and bike education programs for other councils, workplaces and community partners.

These rides are promoted as they become available and may include community rides, themed rides, route discovery rides, confidence-building rides, women’s rides, e-bike rides, family-friendly rides or local active transport programs.

What makes Pedal Set Go guided rides different?

Pedal Set Go guided rides are led by professional bike educators, not just tour guides.

We are experienced in moving groups safely through real Sydney riding environments, supporting newer and returning riders, managing different confidence levels, and helping people feel calm and included while riding together.

We are often engaged to guide transport professionals, conference delegates, local government staff, sustainability teams, elected representatives and decision-makers through Sydney’s streets, cycleways and public spaces.

Our rides are:

  • relaxed, social and no-drop

  • welcoming and inclusive

  • designed around rider comfort and confidence

  • led by experienced professional guides who are also ride instructors

  • focused on safe, practical routes

  • suitable for people who can ride but may not feel highly confident

  • shaped by our experience in bike education, group movement and route planning

  • connected to local communities, neighbourhoods and stories

We ride at a pace that suits the group. Nobody needs to be fast, sporty or highly confident, but riders do need to be able to start, stop, steer and pedal independently.

What to expect on a guided ride

Depending on the ride, you may:

  • discover Sydney cycleways, shared paths and quiet-street routes

  • learn practical ways to navigate the city by bike

  • build confidence riding in a small group

  • practise using bike-friendly crossings and connections

  • hear local stories about places, neighbourhoods and public spaces

  • explore themed routes, public art, food, sustainability, LGBTQIA+ history or community places

  • meet other people who want to ride more often

  • learn how to plan your own future rides

Our rides are designed to be enjoyable and practical. The aim is for you to leave with a great experience, more local route knowledge and more confidence to keep riding.

Private guided bike rides and bespoke Sydney bike tours

Pedal Set Go also offers private guided bike rides and bespoke Sydney bike tours by arrangement.

These are premium guided rides for people who want a thoughtful, welcoming and professionally supported experience.

Private guided rides can be designed for:

  • visitors wanting a local Sydney bike experience

  • locals wanting to discover safer or more interesting routes

  • families or small groups wanting a supported ride

  • workplaces, conferences or professional groups

  • sustainability teams, transport professionals and decision-makers

  • e-bike riders wanting a guided route

  • community groups wanting a themed or place-based ride

Our private rides can be tailored around your interests, including:

  • Sydney cycleways and quiet-street routes

  • public art and creative neighbourhoods

  • LGBTQIA+ history, culture and community spaces

  • local food, cafes and small businesses

  • family-friendly routes

  • e-bike experiences

  • scenic parks, harbour routes and green spaces

  • transport-focused route planning

  • active travel, infrastructure and urban design

  • bespoke local experiences beyond the usual tourist route

For private guided rides, the whole journey matters. We can design the route around rider comfort, safety, local stories, bike-friendly connections, community places and the kind of Sydney experience you want to have.

Small private rides can be arranged for 1–3 people using e-bikes or other suitable bikes, depending on availability. Larger group rides may use riders’ own bikes, arranged hire bikes, or public share bikes where suitable.

Please contact us before booking a private guided ride so we can confirm rider ability, route, group size, bike hire needs, guide availability and pricing.

Bike hire and what to bring

For public guided rides, riders usually need their own roadworthy bike and helmet. Some rides may also be suitable for share bikes, depending on the route, distance and event requirements.

Please check the event listing carefully before booking.

For private guided rides, bike or e-bike hire may be possible by arrangement. We can discuss suitable options when planning the ride.

For all rides, please bring:

  • a roadworthy bike and helmet

  • water

  • snacks if needed

  • weather-appropriate clothing

  • lights if the ride is early, late or in low light

  • your sense of adventure

Children and young people under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Where do guided rides start?

Our guided rides usually start near places that are easy to reach by public transport or bike, such as train stations, light rail stops, ferry wharves, major cycleways or bike-friendly public spaces.

Many rides take place within the City of Sydney, but we also design routes that connect into surrounding areas, including the Inner West, eastern suburbs, parks, foreshore routes and broader Sydney bike networks.

Each ride is planned around suitable routes, rider comfort, safety, public transport access and the purpose of the ride.

Other Pedal Set Go bike education programs

If you want more confidence before joining a guided ride, Pedal Set Go also offers private bike lessons and bike education programs in Sydney, including:

  • Learn to Ride lessons for adults and children

  • Back On Your Bike confidence sessions

  • Confident City Rider private lessons

  • e-bike and cargo bike confidence sessions

  • workplace cycling and e-bike safety programs

  • bike maintenance workshops and tune-ups

Our guided rides, private lessons and workplace programs all share the same foundation: practical, inclusive bike education that helps people feel safer, more confident and more connected to their city by bike.
