Private city riding skills and confidence session in Sydney | 3 to 3.5 hours | $430
Ready to take the next step in your riding journey?
Whether you are planning to commute to work or uni, ride to the shops, accompany children to school, use an e-bike more confidently, refresh your skills, or check your riding habits against best-practice city riding skills, this private lesson helps you ride with more confidence, clarity and control.
Confident City Rider is for people who can already ride a bike but want to feel safer, more prepared and more confident riding in real Sydney conditions.
This is not a Learn to Ride lesson. The rider needs to be able to start, stop, steer and pedal independently before moving into shared path, cycleway or street environments.
This private session is fully tailored to the rider’s current skills, goals, confidence and style of riding. The lesson is progressive and depends on the rider’s demonstrated skills, observation, communication and decision-making.
We specialise in supportive, trauma-aware instruction. This session is suitable for riders who have had a negative or scary riding experience and want to rebuild confidence at their own pace. It is also useful for experienced riders who want a skills refresh, feedback on their riding habits, support riding with children, or a best-practice check before riding more often for transport.
What’s included
3 to 3.5 hours of private instruction with an experienced Pedal Set Go instructor
Approximately 45 minutes of off-bike theory and discussion before riding on streets
A calm, progressive session tailored to the rider’s current confidence and goals
A traffic-free or low-pressure start to check bike control, braking, gears, observation and communication
A progressive guided ride on shared paths, cycleways, quiet streets, local roads, busier roads or more complex riding environments, depending on the rider’s skills and goals
Practical instruction on road positioning, communication, route choice and predictable riding
Support with gears, braking, scanning, signalling and calm decision-making
Tips for choosing safer, calmer routes, including where bike infrastructure is limited
Guidance on Sydney’s bike network, shared paths, cycleways and quiet streets
Feedback on existing riding habits for riders wanting a best-practice skills check
Practical city riding skills similar to the foundations used in Pedal Set Go’s workplace, council and local government bike safety programs
This session is perfect if
You are planning to ride to work, uni, the shops, school or around your neighbourhood
You can ride but feel nervous, rusty or unsure in traffic
You are an experienced rider and want to refresh your skills or check your riding habits
You want to ride with children and make sure you are using best-practice riding skills
You are supporting a child or teen to ride to school
You have had a difficult experience on a bike and want help feeling safe again
You feel anxious around traffic or want to build skills without pressure
You have recently bought a bike, e-bike or cargo bike and want to ride it with confidence
You want help with shared paths, cycleways, quiet streets, intersections, junctions or road positioning
You want support with more complex roads, intersections, lane choice or route planning
You want a private alternative to a group city cycling or intermediate bike skills course
You want practical rider education similar to the skills covered in workplace, council or local government bike safety programs
What you’ll learn
Depending on your goals and current skills, your lesson may include:
Safe and confident braking, including how to stop suddenly without panic
Smooth gear shifting for starts, hills and traffic flow
Scanning, observation and early decision-making
Clear communication, including signalling and body language
Road positioning for visibility, predictability and comfort
Riding near parked cars, side streets and driveways
Navigating intersections, junctions, roundabouts and turns
Route choice, lane choice and decision-making in real Sydney conditions
Shared path and cycleway etiquette
Choosing safer routes for everyday trips
Staying calm and confident in real-world traffic
E-bike handling, speed control and braking, where relevant
Habits that build trust in your own skills and judgement
How the lesson works
We usually begin with approximately 45 minutes of off-bike theory and discussion. This covers essential road safety concepts, route choice, observation, communication, road positioning, predictable riding and how to make calm decisions in real traffic conditions.
We then move into a traffic-free or low-pressure area to check bike control, braking, gears, observation and communication before progressing.
The lesson is progressive and depends on the rider’s current skills, confidence and goals. If the rider is ready, the session may progress to shared paths, cycleways, quiet streets, busier roads, more complex intersections, junctions or route choices.
We only move to the next step when the rider demonstrates safe control, good observation, clear communication and confident decision-making.
For experienced riders, the session can include more complex riding environments, feedback on existing habits, road positioning, route planning, intersections, turns, lane choice and riding predictably in real Sydney conditions.
Equipment
The rider will need a roadworthy bike suitable for the session. Your instructor will bring their own bike and will ride with you during the on-bike parts of the lesson.
Your instructor will guide you through a simple safety check before riding and help ensure the bike setup suits your comfort, control and riding needs.
If the rider needs a bike, we may be able to arrange bike hire at additional cost. This can include the option of a quality e-bike, depending on availability. Please contact us before booking if you need a bike arranged for the session.
Booking information
Cost: $430 flat rate for a private session
Duration: 3 to 3.5 hours
Location: Inner West Sydney or City of Sydney, with suggested meeting points based on the rider’s goals, ability and suitable riding environments
All Confident City Rider sessions need access to a suitable traffic-free or low-pressure area at the start of the lesson. This allows us to check bike control, braking, gears, observation and communication before progressing to shared paths, cycleways or streets.
Most private lessons are held in Inner West Sydney or City of Sydney locations where we can access suitable spaces for control skills and then progressively move into real riding environments.
We may be able to travel further afield by arrangement. Additional travel fees may apply for private lessons outside our usual teaching areas.
Travelling to the rider’s local area can be useful when the rider wants support becoming familiar with local streets, planning a specific route, or practising a journey such as home to work, school, shops or transport connections. The location still needs to be suitable for the rider’s current skill level and include access to a traffic-free or low-pressure starting area.
Before booking
If you have a specific date in mind, please contact us before booking. Weekend sessions are popular and can book out in advance.
After purchase, we will contact you to arrange a lesson time. Your order confirms your purchase, but your booking time is not confirmed until we have scheduled a date with you.

1-Hour Private Bike Lesson – Learn to Ride in Sydney
For Kids and Adults | $230 | One-on-One Instruction
Looking for a supportive and personalised way to learn to ride a bike in Sydney? Our 1-hour private session is ideal for younger children or adults who prefer a shorter, focused lesson with a qualified instructor.
Pedal Set Go provides expert, non-sporty bike education designed for confidence, comfort, and real-life riding. We are Sydney’s trusted team of professional bike instructors—not volunteers or sports coaches.
Who This Is For
Kids:
Recommended for all children under 10
Especially helpful if they haven’t had much experience on a balance bike
A great option for neurodiverse children or those who benefit from quiet, one-on-one environments
Designed to build confidence with play-based learning and no pressure
Adults:
Suitable for adults who are less mobile, anxious, or need a gentler start
Welcoming for neurodiverse adults who prefer structured, calm, and personalised support
Perfect first step before progressing to longer or on-road sessions
What’s Included
1-hour private lesson with an experienced cycling instructor
Calm, flat off-road locations like netball courts or bike paths
Personalised guidance based on skill level, mobility, or past experience
Safety check and setup for your own bike if provided
Conversion of kids' bikes into balance bikes when appropriate
Techniques to support starting, stopping, balance and coordination
Practical advice for what to do next—whether it’s more practice or a follow-up lesson
Equipment
We provide high-quality bikes and helmets for both children and adults.
However, we strongly recommend that children use their own bike wherever possible.
Kids typically need to practise between lessons to build balance, confidence, and independence. Learning on their own bike helps them progress faster and reduces anxiety as they get used to its feel and setup.
In fact, we’d rather your money go toward a good-quality kids' bike than extra lessons.
A well-fitted, second-hand bike is often far more beneficial than booking more sessions or buying a new bike from a department store. We’re here to set your child up to ride on their own, not keep them dependent on instruction.
We recommend Kidvelo bikes for younger riders.
Kidvelo is an Australian-designed brand offering lightweight, durable bikes that grow with your child. Their balance-to-pedal design makes them more affordable and sustainable than buying separate bikes.
BYK bikes are also an excellent option, whether new or secondhand. Both brands are well-designed for kids and make learning smoother, safer and more enjoyable—especially when paired with regular practice.
For adults, we’re happy to provide a bike and helmet if needed.
Many adults are able to make progress within one or two lessons, so using one of our bikes is a practical option if you don’t have your own yet.
Why Choose Pedal Set Go?
Professional, people-focused instruction (not sporty coaching)
Trusted by families across Sydney for bike lessons for kids and adults
WWCC-approved instructors with a focus on emotional safety and encouragement
Inclusive and neurodiversity-aware teaching methods

Pedal Set Go is here to help you or your child learn to ride a bike in Sydney—with confidence, care, and real-world skills that last a lifetime.
Private lessons are tailored to the rider
Some people book a Learn to Ride lesson and progress quickly. Others need more time with balance, braking, starting, stopping or confidence before moving on. We teach skills progressively and only move to the next step when the rider demonstrates safe control.
If the rider can already ride, the session may focus on confidence, shared paths, cycleways, quiet streets, route choice, road positioning, communication, intersections, e-bike handling, intermediate bike skills or everyday city riding skills.
Lesson locations
Most private lessons are held in Inner West Sydney locations, such as Tempe Reserve, where we can access suitable flat, low-pressure spaces for learning and skills practice.
If you cannot travel to the Inner West, please contact us before purchasing online. We may be able to travel further afield by arrangement, but this depends on instructor availability, lesson type, travel time and whether the location is suitable for the rider’s current skill level.
Additional travel fees may apply for private lessons outside our usual teaching areas.
For group bookings, school, workplace, council or community sessions, location and travel arrangements can be discussed as part of the booking or quote.
Bikes and instructor support
Please tell us whether the rider will use their own bike or needs to use a Pedal Set Go bike.
If the rider is using their own bike, it needs to be safe and suitable for the session. We will do a basic safety check before riding.
For more advanced sessions on shared paths, cycleways or streets, the rider will need a suitable bike. If the instructor also needs to ride with the rider, we may need to arrange an instructor bike as part of the booking.
After purchase
After purchase, we will contact you to arrange a lesson time. Your order confirms your purchase, but your booking time is not confirmed until we have scheduled a date with you.
Please include useful details in the order notes, such as riding experience, goals, preferred days and times, whether weekdays are possible, and whether the rider needs a Pedal Set Go bike.
A premium private guided ride for visitors, locals, families, workplaces or small groups wanting to explore Sydney by bike with professional local guides.
Pedal Set Go private guided rides are led by professional bike educators, not just tour guides.
We are often engaged to guide transport professionals, conference delegates, local government staff, sustainability teams and decision-makers through Sydney’s streets, cycleways and public spaces.
For us, the whole journey matters — not just the destination. We design rides around rider comfort, route choice, safety, local stories, community connections and how people experience the city by bike.
You do not need to be a fast or highly confident rider, but riders do need to be able to start, stop, steer and pedal independently. We ride at a pace that suits the group, with encouragement, practical tips and route choices designed to help the experience feel safe, welcoming and within your comfort level.
Private guided rides can be tailored around your interests, including:
Sydney cycleways and quiet-street routes
public art and creative neighbourhoods
LGBTQIA+ history, culture and community spaces
local food, cafes and small businesses
family-friendly routes
e-bike experiences
scenic parks, harbour routes and green spaces
transport-focused route planning
bespoke local experiences beyond the usual tourist route
Small private rides can be arranged for 1–3 people using e-bikes or other suitable bikes, depending on availability. Larger group rides may use riders’ own bikes, arranged hire bikes, or public share bikes where suitable.
This is a premium, bespoke guided ride for people who want a thoughtful, welcoming and professionally supported experience.
Please contact us before booking so we can confirm rider ability, route, group size, bike hire needs, guide availability and pricing.
