Cycle Training in Sydney
Looking for cycle training in Sydney?
At Pedal Set Go, we call it bicycle education.
We help people build practical skills, knowledge and confidence for riding a bike in everyday life - whether they are learning from the beginning, returning to riding, developing skills for Sydney streets and cycleways, using an e-bike, or wanting to understand and maintain their bike.
Our approach is inclusive, practical and focused on the person riding the bike.
You do not need to identify as a cyclist. You do not need to be sporty, fast or already confident.
You just need somewhere to start.
What kind of cycle training are you looking for?
Learn to Ride
Never learnt to ride a bike, or helping somebody else learn?
Our private Learn to Ride lessons start with balance, braking, steering, starting and stopping in a suitable traffic-free environment.
We work at the rider’s pace and focus on developing the skills they need to continue practising independently.
For children, we can also help parents and carers understand how to support the learning process, including using a suitable pedal bike as a balance bike where appropriate.

Returning to Riding
Haven’t ridden for a while?
You may already know how to ride but want some support rebuilding your skills and confidence.
We can revisit bike control, braking, starting and stopping, gears, scanning, signalling and other foundational skills before progressing into more complex riding environments.
Returning to riding does not mean starting again. Sometimes a little supported practice is enough to reconnect with skills you already have and build from there.

Cycling in the City
Looking for a cycling in the city course in Sydney?
Pedal Set Go’s Confident City Rider sessions help people develop practical skills for riding on Sydney streets, cycleways and shared environments.
We work on the skills that support everyday city riding, including:
road positioning
scanning and signalling
starting and stopping
navigating intersections
sharing roads and paths
route choice
communicating with other road users
making decisions in changing riding environments
Our approach is practical and rider-focused.
Rather than expecting people to fit a particular idea of what a cyclist should be, we help people develop the skills they need for the journeys they actually want to make.

Build Confidence for Everyday Riding
Being able to ride a bike and feeling comfortable using it to get somewhere are not always the same thing.
A near miss, an uncomfortable intersection, an unfamiliar route or simply not knowing what to do in a particular situation can be enough to stop somebody riding.
Bicycle education can help bridge the gap between:
“I can ride a bike”
and
“I feel confident using a bike to get around.”
Our sessions can include:
bike control
starting and stopping
braking
gears
scanning and signalling
road positioning
navigating intersections
route choice
sharing roads and paths
communicating with other people
making decisions in changing riding environments
The aim is not simply to teach rules.
We help people understand their options, develop practical skills and make confident decisions while riding.

E-Bike and Cargo Bike Skills
E-bikes can make riding accessible for more people and for more kinds of journeys.
They can also feel different from a conventional bike because of their weight, acceleration and power assistance.
Our practical e-bike education can cover:
starting and stopping
braking
bike control
using assistance levels
managing additional weight
cornering
low-speed handling
route choice
riding in everyday environments
We also work with people using cargo bikes and bikes carrying children, shopping and other loads.
The goal is to help you understand how your bike behaves and develop the skills to use it confidently for the journeys you want to make.

Bike Maintenance Training
Understanding your bike can make riding easier and help you recognise problems before they become bigger ones.
Our bike maintenance education can cover:
bike safety checks
tyres and tyre pressure
puncture repair
brakes
gears
chains and drivetrain care
bike setup
basic adjustments
recognising when professional repair is needed
Our mechanics are also educators.
The focus is not simply on fixing a problem for you. We want to help you understand your bike and give you practical skills you can use again.

Route Planning and Riding for Transport
Sometimes the thing stopping somebody riding is not the bike.
It is the route.
The route you would drive is not necessarily the route you would choose by bike.
We can help people explore quieter streets, cycleways, shared paths and other connections that can make an everyday journey more comfortable.
Route planning can be incorporated into individual lessons, guided rides and workplace or community programs.
For us, riding skills and route knowledge work together.
A suitable route can completely change how a journey feels.

We design programs around the people taking part, the journeys they may want to make and the riding environments they are likely to use.

Cycle Training for Councils and Communities
We work with councils, schools, universities and community organisations across Sydney to deliver practical bicycle education and active transport programs.
Programs can include:
learn-to-ride sessions
riding skills and road safety education
confident city riding
e-bike education
guided rides
share-bike education

community bike events
route familiarisation

Our focus is the people-facing part of active transport.
Infrastructure gives people somewhere to ride.
Education helps people develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to use it.

Share Bike Education
Share bikes give more people access to riding without needing to own, store or maintain a bike.
For some people, a share bike may be their first experience of riding in Sydney.
Our share-bike education can include:
getting familiar with the bike
starting and stopping
braking and bike control
route choice
navigating different riding environments
sharing roads and paths
responsible bike parking
Access to bikes is valuable.
Giving people the skills and confidence to use them well opens up even more possibilities.

Is Cycle Training Only for Cyclists?
No.
You do not need to identify as a cyclist to benefit from bicycle education.
You might:
ride occasionally
want to start riding to work
use a share bike
want to ride with your children
return to riding after many years
have recently bought an e-bike
want to use a bike for shopping or local trips
simply want another way to get around
We prefer to talk about people riding bikes.
For us, bicycle education is about helping more people feel that riding can be something they can do — not about fitting a particular idea of what a cyclist should be.
Inclusive Bicycle Education
People come to riding with different bodies, experiences, abilities, confidence levels and goals.
Our role is not to decide what riding should look like for somebody.
We start with where they are now and what they would like to be able to do.
That might mean learning to balance for the first time.
It might mean riding around the neighbourhood.
It might mean commuting across Sydney.
It might mean carrying children, using an e-bike or becoming comfortable riding on the road.
The goal is practical independence: giving people skills and knowledge they can continue using after the lesson or program ends.
Why Pedal Set Go?
Pedal Set Go provides practical, inclusive bicycle education across Sydney.
We work with individuals, families, councils, workplaces, schools, universities and community organisations.
Our teaching is based around real riding.
That means developing practical skills, understanding riding environments, making decisions, finding suitable routes and building confidence through experience.
We meet people where they are and work towards where they want to ride.
