When was the last time you visited your local bike shop?

Not to buy a new bike.

Just to ask a question.

Have something adjusted.

Book a service.

Or simply have a conversation.

For many people, a bike shop is where they buy a bike and perhaps return when something goes wrong.

We think a great local bike shop is much more than that.

More than a place to buy a bike

A trusted local bike shop can help you:

  • choose a bike that suits the way you want to ride

  • test ride different bikes

  • fit accessories that work for you

  • service and repair your bike

  • answer questions

  • solve problems before they become expensive

  • keep your bike comfortable, reliable and enjoyable to ride

A good bike shop isn't just selling products.

It's helping people keep riding.

Building a relationship matters

Many of us have a favourite café or local mechanic.

A trusted bike shop can become just as valuable.

When they know you and your bike, servicing becomes easier, advice becomes more personal and small problems are often identified before they become bigger ones.

We've also noticed there are fewer independent bike shops than there used to be.

That makes the good ones even more valuable.

You don't need to become a bike mechanic

At Pedal Set Go, we teach bike maintenance because we believe understanding your bike builds confidence.

That doesn't mean everybody needs to enjoy getting their hands dirty.

Some people love learning how to adjust gears or replace cables.

Others would rather spend that time riding.

Both approaches are perfectly valid.

Our goal is to help people understand enough to:

  • reduce the likelihood of common mechanical problems

  • recognise when something doesn't feel right

  • know when a repair is beyond their experience

  • communicate confidently with a mechanic

Understanding your bike is different from repairing every part of it.

We still use a local bike shop

People are sometimes surprised to hear that even though we teach bike maintenance, we still rely on trusted local bike shops ourselves.

Our own bikes receive professional servicing.

Our e-bikes, in particular, often require specialist tools, software, diagnostic equipment and manufacturer-specific knowledge that goes well beyond everyday maintenance.

Knowing when to seek professional help is just as important as knowing how to check your tyre pressure or clean your chain.

Every rider learns differently

Some people learn best by reading.

Some by watching.

Some by doing.

That's why we offer practical bike maintenance workshops, one-on-one sessions and free bike tune-ups for councils, schools and community events.

For some riders, learning how to carry out a simple ABCD bike safety check is enough.

Others enjoy learning how to look after their bike in more detail.

There isn't one right way to learn.

There are simply different ways to build confidence.

Skilled work deserves to be valued

A quality bike service is highly skilled, hands-on work.

A mechanic isn't simply replacing parts.

They're helping make sure your bike is safe, comfortable and reliable.

Like many skilled trades, good mechanics continue learning throughout their careers as bikes, components and e-bike technology evolve.

We believe skilled work deserves to be valued.

Supporting your local bike shop supports your community

We know local bike shops are not always the cheapest option.

Neither are many independent businesses.

But we choose to support businesses that contribute to our community, invest in skilled people and provide ongoing support long after a purchase has been made.

For us, supporting a local bike shop is about more than convenience.

It's about relationships.

It's about sustainability.

It's about fair wages.

It's about keeping valuable knowledge in our communities.

A healthy bike community

Helping more people ride isn't the job of one organisation.

It takes riders, educators, mechanics, local bike shops, councils, advocacy groups and communities working together.

Each plays an important role.

At Pedal Set Go, we're proud to be one part of that community.

Because a great local bike shop doesn't just repair bikes.

It helps keep people riding.
